The bottom line, man
A few years ago my sister and I drove across Montana, from Missoula to Billings, to visit our grandfather in the hospital. While we drove around hills and through wide sun, Radiolab’s “Musical Language” episode aired. It was the first time we’d heard Radiolab.
One of the segments, “Behaves So Strangely,” stuck with us. A professor in the Psychology of Music discusses perfect pitch, why it matters or doesn’t, and one of the lines of words she tests and hums and sings—“Sometimes behaves so strangely”—is one that Christine and I still sing to each other.
This NYTimes Magazine write-up on the show is very much worth a read.
